Rohit Shetty House Firing Case: Accused Changed Locations Across Four States to Evade Arrest

The investigation into the firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence has led to significant revelations, with the Mumbai Crime Branch uncovering a well-planned conspiracy spanning multiple states. According to sources, the accused conducted their final recce on January 20, 2026, and executed the firing in the early hours of February 1.

Police investigations have revealed that on the instructions of Shubham Lonkar, shooters Deepak Sharma, Sonu Kumar, and Sunny Kumar finalised the date of the attack after conducting surveillance on January 20. Between January 15 and 20, Sonu and Sunny had visited the area around Shetty’s house multiple times using a scooter brought from Pune. After the final recce, the scooter was parked at a railway parking lot where it had originally been found with keys on January 15. Shockingly, the scooter remained parked there for nearly 11 days without raising suspicion.

On the night of January 31, the three accused travelled from Kalyan to Mumbai by taxi. Upon reaching Juhu, they retrieved the scooter from the railway parking area. Deepak and Sonu allegedly dropped Sunny at Juhu Chowpatty before consuming alcohol. Thereafter, Deepak proceeded on foot towards Shetty’s residence and opened fire using a semi-automatic pistol, while Sonu waited at a distance with the scooter.

After the incident, the trio abandoned the scooter near Juhu bus stop and attempted to flee. They eventually reached Thane and then Kalyan railway stations before boarding an express train to Bhopal. From there, they travelled to Agra and later hid in a village. Subsequently, Deepak and Sonu stayed in Noida at Vishal’s residence and later took shelter in Haryana with Ritik. Police have arrested Vishal, Ritik, and Jatin for allegedly providing shelter, funds, and logistical support to the accused during their escape.

Crime Branch officials stated that the accused used private vehicles four times and public transport twice to evade detection. Thousands of CCTV footages were scanned to reconstruct their route map. However, the weapon used in the crime is yet to be recovered.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed that their intention was to create panic. They claimed the assignment was given by Vishnu Kushwaha from their village, allegedly linked to Golu Pandit of the Shubham Lonkar gang involved in a ₹5 crore extortion case in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. The accused admitted they were influenced by the glorification of criminals on the gang’s social media accounts and wanted to “gain notoriety.”

Police sources further revealed that some gang members had visited Mumbai earlier to assess the location. The semi-automatic pistol used in the February 1 firing was allegedly provided by the gang. Investigators also found that the accused were closely monitoring media and social media updates regarding police action and frequently changed locations whenever they sensed the police closing in.

The Mumbai Crime Branch is currently working to identify other individuals involved in the conspiracy and dismantle the larger criminal network behind the attack.
