To make the country tuberculosis-free (TB-free), the Central government has launched a special 100-day campaign. A shocking reality has emerged through this campaign—while 1.5 lakh villages across the country are at risk of tuberculosis, as many as 11,091 villages in Maharashtra alone have been identified as vulnerable to the disease.

In just the first 35 days of the campaign, which began on March 24, 2026, 6,111 new TB patients have been detected in the state. Under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme, an AI (Artificial Intelligence)-based VMTB tool is currently being used. Through this technology, 11,091 villages in the state have been identified as “high risk.”

Under this campaign, the target is to conduct health check-ups of 1.5 crore people in these 11,000 villages across Maharashtra. So far, through 2,677 camps, 5,49,435 people have been registered.

After testing the sputum samples of 1,14,612 suspected individuals, 6,111 new patients have been identified. Their details have been registered on the ‘Nikshay’ app, and treatment has already started. The state has also been provided with 111 mobile X-ray machines. With the help of AI, X-ray reports are generated within minutes without requiring a doctor’s immediate review.
