Alfiya qualifies for youth world boxing trials

City’s international boxer and a student of Saraswati Junior College, Koradi road Alfiya Khan Pathan has qualified for trials of Youth World Championship.The ranking event for Khelo India players was organized by Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Boxing Federation of India (BFI) at National Boxing Academy (NBA), Rohtak.

She is the only girl from Maharashtra to have bagged a place in the Youth World Championship trials. She secured a place in the trials by winning the Khelo India ranking event in 81kg category in youth section.

There are three other girl boxers from Maharashtra in Khelo India. They could not claim a rank as they lost before semifinal round, while Alfiya emerged winner in her section.

The BFI will beselected four players from each weight category and putting them in a camp before trails scheduled to be held at the same venue. The trials are likely to be played in February end. The AIBA Youth World Championship will be played in Poland between April 10 and 24.
