Nagpur, April 15

Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said that no one knows, how long Covid pandemic will last and hence the big hospitals should now set up their own oxygen plant. This will end their dependency of oxygen from outside and they can have unrestricted supply. He was speaking during the inauguration ceremony of the 100-bed Covid centre set up at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Jamtha. Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis, NCI CEO Shailesh Joglekar and Dr Anand Pathak were also present.

Gadkari said that in eight days 100 more beds will be arranged in the Covid Center. Currently, 20 ICUs and 30 ventilator beds have been provided here. Gadkari said that 400 tonnes of oxygen has been arranged from Bhilai in view of lack of oxygen.

Around 300 beds have been increased in GMCH and Mayo. Arrangements are being made to bring 1,000 ventilators along with oxygen from the center's medical park in Visakhapatnam. Allowing Remdesivir production to 7 more companies will also increase the supply of Remdesivir injection.

Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari, MP Vikas Mahatme, MLA Pariney Phuke and Praveen Datke were also present.

No beds, medicines, oxygen,

ventilators: Fadnavis

Devendra Fadnavis said in the second wave of Covid infection in city, number of patients are huge in Nagpur, but beds, medicines, oxygen, ventilators are not available in the same ratio. In such a situation, the families of the patients are in panic. The Covid center will prove useful in such a situation. Two machines will also be available for CT scans of Covid patients here.
