A large number of patients were treated at Mayo Hospital during the Coronavirus period. Mayo was sanctioned a special grant by the government to battle the Coronavirus. Only 75 per cent of the grant received during the corona period from March to September was spent. This was revealed in reply to the query asked under the right to information.

Abhay Kolarkar, an RTI activist, had approached Mayo Hospital under RTI. He had asked how much grant Mayo received and how much was spent during the Corona period, how much was received and spent under the Mahatma Phule Jan Aarogya Yojana. According to the official information received, during the period from March 22 to September 10, Mayo Hospital received a grant of `23. 24 crore and out of which only 17. 31 lakh crore was spent. So 25 per cent of the amount was unspent.

Under the Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, 2,406 patients were treated at Mayo Hospital between January 1 and August 30. The hospital received an amount of `2.82 crore out of which only `90.74 lakh was spent.
