Resentment among women against police inaction

A computer engineer bride was thrown from the 4th floor gallery of her apartment by her father-in-law, as the bride failed to get enough dowry from her parents. The incident took place in Hudkeshwar area and there is heavy resentment among the women of the area, as the in-laws and others involved in the gruesome act are still roaming free alleged the members of Niradhar Mahila and Bal Vikas Samiti and demand immediate arrest of the people responsible for it.

Computer engineer Karishma was married to Saket Tamgadge, a software developer on August 20, 2020. Her in-laws started harassing her after marriage, as they did not get the desired dowry. On the evening of December 23, while Karishma was standing on the balcony of a flat on the fourth floor of her building, the accused Bhimrao Tamgadge threw her down with an intention to kill her. Karisma was critically injured and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

In this case, Hudkeshwar police has registered a case against the accused husband Saket, father-in-law Bhimrao, mother-in-law, Saket’s sister for attempted murder under the Dowry Prevention Act. However, the accused were not arrested even after two weeks. This has led to intense anger among the women of the area. Against this backdrop, the women, led by Niradhar Mahila and Bal Vikas Samiti vice-chairperson and corporator Vandana Bhagat, stormed the Hudkeshwar police station and demanded the arrest of the accused.

Hinting at agitation

If the accused are not arrested immediately, there will be intense agitation by Niradhar Mahila and Bal Vikas Samiti vice-chairperson and corporator Bhagat. Taking cognizance of the women agitators, officials of Hudkeshwar police station assured them of cooperation. The search for the accused is on and they will be arrested soon the police said. The women’s delegation included Nanda Godghate, Jaya Pantawane, Visakha Kamble, Sujata Gaikwad and others.
