In the national selection trials, which was held in Rohtak (Haryana) on Thursday to select the Indian team, the duo of Samiksha Singh and Anant Deshmukh qualified for the international tournament. Samiksha made hes mark by winning three consecutive rounds in a group of 50 to 52 kg weight category under the age group of the selection trials After defeating the opposition from Manipur in the first match, she easily overcame the challenge of the player from Haryana in the semi-final. In a decisive match, she defeated Uttar Pradesh's women boxer and made the ticket to Jordan.
Anant won three matches in a row. Anant, who competed in the 63 to 66 kg age group, defeated players from Haryana in the first bout, Uttar Pradesh in the semi-finals and the final match. It is the first international competition for both of them, and they are aiming in winning medals for the country. 15-year-old Samsika is studying in Delhi Sports School in Class VIII and is training under the guidance of Nitu Madam who is boxing Coach of Delhi Sports School. Anant is a student of Deshmukh Central School and is training at the Divisional Sports Complex of Mankapur under the guidance of NIS coach Ganesh Purohit. Porus Kotwal, secretary of Nagpur District Boxing Association and office bearers of City Boxing Organisation congratulated him for this performance.
