A three-year-old boy identified as Kartik Vilas Ghuge, who suffered severe burns in an accident in the Ashwinnagar area of Nashik district, Maharashtra, has died during treatment. The incident took place on October 8 at a construction site near a college in Pathardi Phata. An accidental death case was registered at Ambad Police Station on December 7.

Kartik’s family worked as labourers at the construction site. On the day of the incident, they had kept a pot of hot water for bathing. While playing, Kartik unknowingly sat on the pot, sustaining serious burn injuries. He cried out in pain and was immediately rushed to CIDCO Hospital. He was later shifted to a hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and then to Ghati Hospital for further treatment. Despite the efforts of doctors, Kartik died on October 21. Police registered a case of accidental death on December 7.

In the past few months, at least seven children have died in Nashik city due to various incidents. Observations by doctors and police indicate that a lack of parental supervision and inadequate safety measures at under-construction sites are the main causes.

Six children have drowned or suffered fatal burns after falling into open water tanks, septic tanks, or hot surfaces at construction areas. Police records show that more than seven children of local and migrant labourers have lost their lives in such accidents over the last five months. These recurring incidents have raised serious concerns about the need for strict safety systems at construction sites to protect children.
