As many as 144 of 360 villagers of Abanal village in Karnataka's Belagavi district were found to be Covid positive after a random test was conducted on Tuesday. Most of them had recently returned from Maharashtra to take part in a festival. Following this, random testing was conducted by the district administration. “The native people working in Maharashtra visited the village for the festival.

After the festival, few people were admitted to local primary health care centres after they complained of vomiting fever and other symptoms. As per the protocol, we collected their samples and they tested positive,” Khanapur taluk medical officer Sanjeeva Nadre told the Indian Express. All those who tested positive are stable, most of them are non-symptomatic and a few are showing mild symptoms. All of them have been asked to stay in home quarantine, he said. District Commissioner Harish Kumar visited the village and reviewed the situation.
