A 55-year-old Anganwadi teacher in Telangana, who was vaccinated for Covid-19 on Saturday, died on Sunday but authorities said the death seems unrelated to the vaccine.

The Anganwadi teacher died at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (Nims). She is the third person to die after receiving the jab.

The health department, however, made it clear that the death of the Anganwadi worker, Susheela, was not because of the vaccination but was a result of comorbidities that she had suffered from.

Susheela was from Mancherial district. She received her first dose of Covid-19 vaccine on January 19 at a Primary Health Centre in Kasipet Mandal. When she developed shortness of breath and reported feeling giddy, she was taken to Nims for treatment where she passed away on the night of January 30.

According to Director of Public Health Dr G Srinivasa Rao, "Death occurred due to cardio-respiratory arrest triggered by multiple morbidities such as restrictive lung disease, respiratory infection, accelerated hypertension with left ventricular failure."

Earlier, two more healthcare workers — a 42-year-old ambulance driver in Nirmal district and a 48-year-old Anganwadi worker from Warangal district — have died in Telangana after having received the vaccine. In both the cases also, the health department refused to attribute the cause of death to vaccines.
