A shopkeeper was held for making and selling adulterated pomegranate juice to customers in Uttar Pradesh's Basti district. A video of him being caught by a customer was circulated on social media on Thursday.
In a viral video, a man alleged that the worker at the juice shop mixed liquid food colours to make pomegranate juice, which could be 'poisonous' for consumers. In a shared clip of 1.45 seconds, the man asked the worker named Chandan, who was working at the shop, about his information and said that pomegranate was mixed with the artificial liquid.
After a video went viral on social media websites, including X (formerly known as Twitter), Basti Police initiated an investigation into the alleged video clip. Taking to X handle, the police informed that a food inspector from Basti visited the vendor and discovered a chemical, which was found to be an edible food colour of a certified company.
"When the case was investigated by the Food Inspector of Basti district, it was found that the said chemical was found to be edible food colour of a certified company, which can be eaten/drunk after mixing it in balanced quantities. Further action will be taken on the basis of the report, peace and law and order are maintained," said Basti Police in a post on X.
