Ahead of Foundation Day, Gujarat Guv underlines commitment to green growth & inclusive development
Gandhinagar, April 30 As Gujarat prepares to mark its 66th Foundation Day on May 1, Governor Acharya Devvrat has called for a collective commitment towards building a developed, environmentally responsible and socially cohesive state.
In his video statement, the Governor extended greetings to citizens of Gujarat living in the state, across India and abroad.
He paid tribute to the leaders and personalities associated with the formation and development of the state and said their contributions continue to guide Gujarat’s progress.
“Saints, warriors and great personalities such as Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati have given Gujarat a distinct identity at the global level,” the Governor said.
He noted that the principles of truth and non-violence, administrative unity and knowledge traditions linked to these figures have shaped the state’s development journey since its formation on May 1,1960.
The Governor said Gujarat has, over the decades, established itself as a “global role model” of development through sustained effort and public participation.
"The state’s progress must now be aligned with environmental sustainability and public health priorities alongside economic growth," he noted.
Emphasising agriculture, he urged farmers to adopt natural farming practices.
“Natural farming is not merely an agricultural method but a means to protect the environment and ensure a healthier future for coming generations,” he said, adding that cow-based natural farming can play a significant role in maintaining soil health and ecological balance.
The Governor also referred to Gujarat’s role in national development under the vision of 'Developed India @ 2047', stating: "The state has made notable contributions in sectors such as green energy, semiconductors, industrial development and emerging economic activities."
Calling for unified action, he said development goals could be achieved through coordinated efforts across all sections of society.
“We must work together to build a Gujarat that is both prosperous and sensitive, where every citizen is healthy, secure and empowered through the principles of collective effort and inclusive development,” he said.
