The second Covid-19 wave hit India in April-May and, during this period, the country registered record daily cases upto 4 lakh and deaths due to the viral disease. A shortage of vaccines, oxygen, medicines and hospital beds was also reported during the deadly wave. Since then, however, the daily cases and deaths have seen a steady decline, partly due to restrictive measures imposed by state governments. A group of medical experts has projected that India’s third Covid-19 wave could arrive soon in 2-4 weeks in Maharashtra.

Dr Naveet Wig, Chairman of AIIMS COVID task force has given important advice to brace up for the third wave of COVID-19. He said,"The virus has not been eradicated. It keeps changing its colours so we've to be smart. Clean mask & COVID appropriate behaviour will help us & second, we're increasing vaccination. Everybody must get vaccinated."

"If the third wave of COVID comes, whom we'll blame?  We've to keep our strategy of test positivity rate of less than 1% in each district & 50% of COVID ICU beds should be vacant," he addded.

A group of medical experts surveyed by news agency Reuters has projected that India’s third Covid-19 wave could arrive by October.
