Andhra Pradesh: A shocking incident occurred in Macherla were a 32-year-old woman working as an outsourced staff in a government department was allegedly raped and assaulted by an unidentified person. Palnadu district superintendent of police (SP) B Krishna Rao said the woman was staying alone at her house.
According to PTI reports the unidentified person knocked at the door at 4 pm on April 2 under the pretext of asking for a glass of drinking water. He later forcefully barged into the house and raped her. Police reported, the woman was living alone in Macherla after separated from her husband, while her daughter stayed with her grandparents.
Meanwhile, police in the Balangir district of Odisha have arrested six minors in connection with the gang rape of a minor girl. The arrests follow the circulation of a video of the sexual assault on social media, which brought the December 27 incident last year to the attention of authorities earlier this week.
According to Balangir Sub-Inspector of Police (SP) Abhilash G, said that the incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Turkela police station were six minors allegedly gang raped a minor girl after watching adult content. He said that after they allegedly recorded the video of the sexual assault and circulated it on social media. "After the video went viral, the police arrested six minors on the complaint of the minor's family. However, according to the complaint, all the arrested minors are known to the victim," said Abbhilash.
Initially, the victim's family remained silent due to shame and did not file a complaint. However, after a video of the incident went viral, they reported it to the police. Authorities, including the police, a child protection officer, and the Child Welfare Committee, investigated the case, seizing the suspects' mobile phones. The accused were arrested and presented before the Juvenile Justice Board, according to Abbhilash.
IG Northern Range, Himanshu Lal, stated that the minors were misguided by adult content on mobile and social media, which he identified as the root of the crime. He emphasized the importance of awareness and police efforts in this direction. A case has been registered under Sections 66E and 67 of the Information Technology Act, related to privacy violation and distribution of obscene material in electronic form. The suspects appeared before the Juvenile Justice Board on Wednesday afternoon.
