Banks in India will be closed for up to three days, as per the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) annual holiday calendar for 2025. However, bank holidays may vary by state, depending on regional festivals and scheduled or unscheduled holidays.

In Jammu and Kashmir, banks are expected to have an extended weekend starting today, March 27, as the Muslim community in the Union Territory observes Shab-e-Qadr (Laylatul Qadr). This will be followed by Alvida Jummah (Jumat-ul-Vida) on Friday, March 28. With Sunday, March 30, being a regular weekly holiday, and Eid al-Fitr 2025 expected on March 31 (subject to the sighting of the crescent moon of the Shawwal month), banks in the region may experience multiple consecutive closures.

However, March 29, which falls on a Saturday, will not be a bank holiday as it is the fifth Saturday of the month. According to banking regulations, financial institutions remain open on the first, third, and fifth Saturdays, while the second and fourth Saturdays are observed as holidays.

On March 31, there will be an official bank holiday in several states and Union Territories for Eid al-Fitr 2025. The states and cities where a holiday has been declared include Agartala, Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad (AP & TS), Imphal, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Srinagar, and Thiruvananthapuram.

As of now, no state governments have officially declared a holiday on April 1, 2025. However, an unplanned holiday may be announced based on the sighting of the crescent moon, which determines the date of Eid al-Fitr. If the moon is sighted on March 30, Eid will be celebrated on March 31. If not, the month of Ramadan will be completed with 30 days of fasting, and Eid will be observed on April 1 instead.
