Bengaluru Stamped: The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) on Friday filed a petition in the high court challenging the FIR registered against it in connection with the deadly stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) Indian Premier League (IPL) victory celebrations. According to the ANI, President Raghuram Bhat, Secretary A. Shankar, Treasurer E.S. Jairam file petition appealing for cancellation of FIR. Hearing to be held this afternoon by the bench of Justice Krishna Kumar.

The stampede occurred on Wednesday evening when thousands of fans gathered near the stadium to celebrate RCB’s first-ever IPL title win. The incident left eleven people dead and several others injured. KSCA took legal action a day after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ordered the arrest of officials from RCB, the event management company and the KSCA. This order came after an FIR was registered at Cubbon Park Police Station. The FIR named representatives from all three organisations under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
According to the media reports, the FIR was lodged at Cubbon Park Police Station based on a complaint by a police inspector. The charges include voluntarily causing hurt (Section 115), causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous means (Section 118), assault to deter a public servant (Section 121), and unlawful assembly (Section 190) under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
