India is currently dealing with a devastating second Covid-19 wave that has swept through the nation, crushing the country's health infrastructure and overburdening frontline medical workers.

Many people in the country are dying due to lack of oxygen. Although various measures are being taken by the Central and State Governments to address the shortage of oxygen in the country, the Supreme Court has now made a big announcement.

The Supreme Court has set up a task force to ensure smooth supply of oxygen and essential medicines in the country. The task force will consist of 12 members.

The Supreme Court has been keeping a close watch on the shortage of oxygen and essential medicines in the country. The apex court has observed that proper distribution of oxygen and medicines is required. It was against this background that the court decided to appoint a task force. The 12-member National Task Force will plan for the smooth supply of oxygen in the country.A bench headed by Supreme Court Judge DY Chandrachud today announced the decision to appoint a national task force to distribute oxygen and drugs in the country.

The names of the members of the task force have also been announced.

A 12-member task force to distribute oxygen across the country

  • Dr. Bhavtosh Vishwas, Former Vice Chancellor, West Bengal University of Health Sciences, Kolkata
  • Dr. Devendra Singh Rana, Chairman, Board of Management, Sir Ganga Hospital, Delhi.
  • Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Chairman and Executive Director, Narayan Healthcare, Bangalore.
  • Dr. Gagandeep Kang, Professor, Christian Medical College, Vellore, Tamil Nadu.
  • Dr. JV Peter, Director, Christian Medical College, Vellore, Tamil Nadu.
  • Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman, Medanta Hospital and Heart Institute Gurugram.
  • Dr. Rahul Pandit, Director, Critical Care Medicine and ICU, Fortis Hospital, Mulund (Mumbai) and Kalyan (Maharashtra)
  • Dr. Soumitra Rawat, Chairman, Department of Gastroenterology and Liver Transplant, Sir Gangaram Hospital, Delhi.
  • Dr. Shivkumar Sareen, Senior Professor and Head of the Department of Hepatology, Delhi.
  • Dr. Jarir F. Udwadia, Consultant Chest Physician, Hinduja Hospital, Birch Candy Hospital and Parsi General Hospital, Mumbai
  • Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

The coordinator of the National Task Force will also be a member of the task force. It will also include an official at the level of Cabinet Secretary to the Central Government. An Assistant Officer to the Cabinet Secretary may also be appointed if required.
