Several individuals have been taken into custody for questioning following a  blast outside the BJP office in Chandigarh on Wednesday. After the incident, the police authorities immediately rushed to the spot for examination of the matter. The blast, as per the preliminary reports, was low-intensity. Hours after the blast, Khalistani terrorist Sukhjinder Singh Babbar claimed responsibility for the attack.

In a statement, he said, "Sukhjinder Singh Babbar claims responsibility for the grenade attack that took place in Sector 37, Chandigarh, on April 1, 2026. We wish to convey to the Indian establishment that they may employ whatever tactics they desire to eliminate the Sikh youth of Punjab; the Khalsa Panth of the Dasmesh Pita (Guru Gobind Singh Ji) will deliver a fitting retaliation".He also vowed to avenge the death of Ranjit Singh, a suspect in the February 2026 killing of two policemen in Gurdaspur, and was shot dead in an alleged police encounter on February 25, 2026."The killers of Ranjit Singh in Gurdaspur, too, shall not be spared.

The protective hand of the Dasmesh Pita rests upon our heads. The land of Punjab is the land of the Khalsa. Khalistan shall be established in Punjab!"State BJP leader Vineet Joshi said that an explosion-like sound was heard around 5 pm, followed by panic in the area due to smoke and damage to nearby vehicles. He termed the incident a serious security concern, especially given the proximity to the party office. "At around 5 pm, a blast occurred here, and a lot of smoke was seen. There was an atmosphere of panic after the blast. A scooty, a car were damaged. This is a matter of concern. A blast taking place near the party office is a matter of concern. For the last four days, the BJP State Working President was staying here and a blast taking place at this time, is a serious concern," Joshi told reporters.
