India reported over 1.61 lakh new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry. With the country reporting 1,61,736 new COVID-19 cases, the total number of cases has gone up to 1,36,89,453.
Meanwhile a shocking information is coming from Gujarat where a 11-day-old baby has been diagnosed with covid-19. A baby from Surat in Gujarat has contracted covid and she is the youngest corona patient.According to the information received, an 11-day-old baby girl has been battling the coronavirus since the fifth day of her birth.
Doctors estimate that the newborn baby became infected with the corona after coming in contact with the mother. A 30-year-old woman from Amaroli area was admitted to Diamond Hospital for delivery on April 1 and the woman gave birth to baby girl on the same day. According to Dr. Alpesh Sindhvi, a pediatrician at the hospital, the baby was having trouble breathing while she birthed. However, this is common and is seen in many babies.
The baby was given formula feed instead of breast milk until April 5th. On April 5, the baby's condition improved and the mother was called in to breastfeed. The baby was then X-rayed on April 6 after the baby girl started having difficulty breathing. On April 6, her lungs were clear. The next day, however, X-rays showed a large white area where the infection had spread. An antigen test was then performed, in which the baby's report came back positive.
Since the report came positive the baby has been placed on a ventilator and given Remdesivir injection. Dr. Sindhvi has also informed that the hospital is planning to provide plasma treatment to the baby. A Hindi website has reported about this.
