A 22-year-old man was shot dead near Shyam Lal College in northeast Delhi during the intervening night of May 19 and 20, police said, reported the news agency ANI.

According to Sandeep Lamba, Additional DCP of the North-East District, the firing incident was reported within the jurisdiction of Welcome Police Station. When police teams reached the spot near Keshav Chowk, they found that the injured man had already been shifted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital by his family members.

The victim was identified as Amanullah Qureshi, a resident of Gurudwara Mohalla in Maujpur. Doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead.

Police said forensic and crime scene investigation teams visited the spot and collected evidence. A case has been registered at Welcome Police Station and multiple teams have been formed to identify and trace the accused involved in the incident.

Officials said further investigation is underway and more details are awaited.
