New Delhi, May 14 Delhi Police's East District unit has apprehended a 20-year-old robber along with a juvenile in connection with a robbery incident reported near Sanjay Lake in the Pandav Nagar area, officials said on Thursday.

The accused have been identified as Prem, a resident of Jawahar Mohalla in Shashi Garden, and a 17-year-old Child in Conflict with Law (CCL).

Police said the robbed Oppo mobile phone and handbag belonging to the complainant were also recovered from the possession of the accused duo.

According to the police, the incident took place on May 10 when complainant Nikita was sitting with her friend at Sanjay Lake.

Two unidentified boys allegedly approached them, pushed the complainant and forcibly snatched her handbag containing an Oppo mobile phone and Rs 800 cash before fleeing from the spot.

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered at the Pandav Nagar Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

During investigation, robbery sections were added after the complainant detailed the use of criminal force during the incident.

A dedicated police team comprising assistant Sub-Inspector Rajender, Head Constable Prashant, Constable Tarachand, and Constable Ajay was formed under the supervision of Dara Singh, the Station House Officer of Pandav Nagar Police Station, and the guidance of Mayur Vihar Assistant Commissioner of Police, Amandeep Kaur.

Police said the team examined CCTV footage from nearby areas, though no direct footage from the exact spot was available.

Investigators then relied on local intelligence, surveillance, and technical inputs to identify the accused.

During the probe, Prem was identified as a suspect and multiple raids were conducted at his hideouts, but he had allegedly escaped.

Police later found that the accused Prem was frequently seen with the juvenile co-accused, who was also missing from his residence.

Acting on specific information received on May 12; the police team laid a trap near Sanjay Lake and apprehended the accused duo.

During police questioning, the accused initially tried to mislead the investigators but later disclosed their involvement in the robbery, police said.

The robbed mobile phone and handbag were subsequently recovered.

Police said that Prem is a school dropout, unemployed and allegedly was a drug-addict. He was previously involved in another case registered at the Pandav Nagar Police Station.

Further investigation in the matter is underway.
