Explained: How Sophisticated 'Blue Dart' Delivery Scam Hacked Hundreds Of WhatsApp Accounts

Are you getting calls from someone claiming to be a Blue Dart executive? Have you been told that your delivery couldn’t be completed and then asked to dial a suspicious number starting with * and ending with #? Stop right there! You might just be walking right into a scam trap. Here's everything you need to know about this new scam and how to protect yourself.

How the Scam Works

Many people have recently reported receiving calls from scammers pretending to be executives from Blue Dart. The caller claims that a delivery attempt was unsuccessful because the delivery executive couldn't reach you. To assist with the delivery, the so-called executive offers to connect you with the delivery agent and sends a text message asking you to call a number provided in the message.

Example Message:

"Thank you for Contacting BlueDart Express
Your order from BlueDart Express AWB - 7725953HTA742113 is undelivered because the customer is not contactable. You may call delivery Number
218929284566#
Delivery Boy Name - Vignesh
E-mail - support.bluedart.in
Website - www.bluedart.com."

At first glance, this message looks legitimate. It mentions a delivery issue and provides what appears to be the contact number for the delivery agent. However, dialing this number can have disastrous consequences.

What Happens When You Dial the Number?

The code embedded in the number is not just a contact number—it activates call forwarding. By dialing it, all your incoming calls, including critical ones from banks and OTP services, are redirected to the scammer’s phone.

The Impact

Once call forwarding is activated, scammers gain access to crucial information such as:

1) Bank account details

2) One-Time Passwords (OTPs)

3) Personal verification codes

With this sensitive data, they can commit financial fraud and identity theft, leaving you vulnerable and scrambling to recover your losses.

How to Protect Yourself

Here are some essential tips to safeguard yourself from this scam:

1) Be cautious of calls from unknown numbers: Especially if they claim to be from Blue Dart or any other delivery service.

2) Never dial codes shared by unknown callers: Avoid dialing numbers that involve call forwarding or other phone settings.

3) Regularly check your call forwarding settings: Ensure that no suspicious call forwarding settings are enabled on your phone.

4) Stay informed: Keep yourself updated about common scams through trusted sources.

5) Educate family and friends: Share this information to help them avoid falling victim to such scams.

By staying alert and following these tips, you can protect yourself from this dangerous scam and ensure your personal and financial information remains secure.
