Hapur: Former UP Minister Madan Chauhan Escapes Attack After Gun Misfires

Former Uttar Pradesh minister Madan Chauhan, who was on his way to attend an engagement ceremony in Hiranpura village under the Garhmukteshwar police station limits in Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh, was attacked by a group of men in a car. Chauhan alleged that one of the attackers pointed a pistol at him and attempted to fire, but the gun failed. The security personnel accompanying him tried to catch the accused, who fled.

According to the information received, some youths in a car were standing on the road. Chauhan said that on Monday, he was travelling in his car to attend an engagement at an acquaintance’s house in Hiranpura. As he got off the expressway and entered the village road, he saw group of men.

"Three boys were standing there. One of them held two pistols. As soon as he saw our car, he abused us and suddenly came towards us and fired at us. By God’s grace, either there was no bullet in the chamber or it missed. We all heard the sound and felt we had been shot at. Immediately, Diwan ji got down and showed his uniform and rifle, after which the attackers ran away, and we moved the car back," Chauhan said.

He said the youths were armed, and as they approached his vehicle, one of them pulled out a pistol and attempted to shoot, but the bullet did not discharge. When his security personnel got out of the car, the accused fled. The former minister called the incident serious and expressed concern for his safety. He has demanded immediate action from the police.

Hapur ASP Vineet Bhatnagar said the information has been received and the matter is being investigated from all angles. Police are scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas and identifying suspicious vehicles. Patrolling has been increased in the area since the incident.

Who is Madan Chauhan?

Madan Chauhan is a prominent political figure. He served as MLA from the Garhmukteshwar constituency for three consecutive terms. He was appointed Minister of State with independent charge in the Akhilesh Yadav government. He lost the 2017 election to BJP MLA Kamal Malik. Chauhan hails from Syana Road in Garhmukteshwar town and was known to be a close associate of the late Amar Singh.
