Jaunpur DM Withholds Salaries of Tehsildars Over Non-Compliance With Court Orders

In Jaunpur, the District Magistrate (DM) has withheld the salary of the Sadar Tehsildar until further orders for failing to comply with court orders in a road accident case. In addition, the salary of the Badlapur Tehsildar has also been withheld in two other cases.

This action comes two days after Tribunal Judge Manoj Kumar Agarwal ordered the District Magistrate’s salary to be withheld. His salary was restored on April 22 following an explanation from the District Magistrate and an assurance from the Tehsildar.

Following the reinstatement of his salary, the District Magistrate held a meeting with subordinate officers. During the meeting, it was decided to withhold the salary of the Sadar Tehsildar in compliance with court orders related to six road accident cases.f

In accordance with Supreme Court and High Court orders, road accident cases in which recovery certificates (RCs) have been issued against vehicle owners are to be resolved promptly. Many such cases have been pending before the tribunal for over 50 years, where recovery has not been made despite the issuance of RCs.

Earlier, the tribunal judge had ordered the withholding of salaries of SDMs and tehsildars, which led to the resolution of a large number of cases and compensation payments to affected families by vehicle owners. However, in some cases, the court also ordered the withholding of the District Magistrate’s salary due to continued negligence.

Administrative officers are now taking strict action in recovery-related matters to ensure that pending cases are resolved quickly.
