Srinagar, May 15 Union Minister Jitendra Singh will lead deliberations on women’s rights and empowerment at a two-day “Shakti Samvaad” being organised by the National Commission for Women (NCW) here from Saturday, an official said.
The fourth edition of “Shakti Samvaad, on May 16 and 17, will bring together State Women Commissions from across the country for deliberations on women’s rights, institutional coordination and strengthening mechanisms for women’s safety, said an official statement.
While Union Minister Jitendra Singh will address the inaugural session, NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar will address the gathering and underline the importance of responsive governance, stronger institutional collaboration, and grassroots-level mechanisms for safeguarding the rights and dignity of women.
The two-day consultation includes focused deliberations on themes such as State Progress Snapshot, State Law Review from a Women’s Rights Perspective, Recent Supreme Court and High Court Judgments on Women, Addressing Stalking – Legal & Institutional Response, and Women and the New Labour Codes: Safeguarding Rights, Welfare and Workplace Dignity.
“Shakti Samvaad” is a flagship consultative initiative of the National Commission for Women aimed at fostering close coordination and continuous engagement between NCW and State Women Commissions.
The first edition of the consultation was organised in Ayodhya, followed by Mumbai and New Delhi, with the Srinagar edition further reinforcing NCW’s commitment to collaborative policymaking and institutional strengthening for women’s welfare across states.
The organisation of this national-level consultation in Srinagar also reflects the growing participation of institutions and stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir and highlights the importance of inclusive dialogue and coordinated governance in advancing women’s rights and access to justice.
The event will be joined by senior government officials, legal experts, law enforcement representatives, policymakers, and members of State Women's Commissions from across the country.
