Petrol at Rs 97.77 in Delhi after fuel hike; check rates in major Indian cities

New Delhi, May 15 Petrol and diesel prices surged across top Indian cities on Friday after state-run oil companies announced a fresh hike of over Rs 3 per litre amid rising global crude oil prices and supply concerns linked to the ongoing West Asia crisis.

Following the revision, petrol prices climbed to Rs 110.89 per litre in Hyderabad, while diesel rates reached Rs 99.63 per litre in Thiruvananthapuram.

The latest increase marks the first major revision in fuel prices since May 2022, when petrol and diesel rates were largely kept unchanged despite volatility in international crude oil markets.

Oil marketing companies cited mounting losses from higher crude procurement and refining costs as the primary reason for the revision.

Petrol prices were increased by between Rs 3 and Rs 3.46 per litre across the country, while diesel prices rose by Rs 3 to Rs 3.56 per litre depending on the state and local taxes.

In the national capital, petrol prices rose by Rs 3 to Rs 97.77 per litre, while diesel prices climbed to Rs 90.67 per litre after a similar increase.

Mumbai residents will now pay Rs 106.64 per litre for petrol following a Rs 3.10 hike, while diesel prices rose by Rs 3.11 to Rs 93.14 per litre.

In Kolkata, petrol prices crossed the Rs 108 mark, reaching Rs 108.74 per litre, while diesel climbed to Rs 95.13 per litre.

In Chennai, petrol prices increased to Rs 103.67 per litre and diesel rates rose to Rs 95.25 per litre after the latest revision.

Hyderabad continued to record the highest petrol price among major Indian cities, with rates increasing by Rs 3.39 to Rs 110.89 per litre.

Diesel prices in the city also surged to Rs 98.96 per litre.

Thiruvananthapuram followed closely in fuel prices, with petrol rates touching Rs 110.75 per litre.

Diesel prices in the Kerala capital climbed by Rs 3.37 to Rs 99.63 per litre, the highest in the country.

Among other major cities, Bengaluru witnessed a sharp increase, with petrol prices rising by Rs 3.25 to Rs 106.21 per litre, while diesel climbed by Rs 3.11 to Rs 94.10 per litre.

In Gurugram, petrol prices increased by Rs 3.17 to Rs 98.47 per litre, while in Noida they rose by Rs 3.04 to Rs 97.78 per litre.

Lucknow remained relatively cheaper among major urban centres, with petrol prices increasing by Rs 2.82 to Rs 97.55 per litre.

Jaipur recorded petrol prices at Rs 107.97 per litre after a Rs 2.94 increase, while Bhubaneswar saw rates rise by Rs 3.22 to Rs 104.19 per litre.

Despite the latest hike, Chandigarh remained the city with the lowest fuel prices among major cities.

Petrol there increased by Rs 2.97 to Rs 97.27 per litre, while diesel rose by Rs 2.80 to Rs 85.25 per litre.
