As C. Joseph Vijay took the stage, fans cheered and chanted “TVK! TVK!” while welcoming the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. TVK chief Joseph Vijay took oath as the Chief Minister at a ceremony held at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, May 10, in the presence of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. Acting Governor of Tamil Nadu Rajendra Arlekar administered the oath of office.
Vijay created a historic moment by taking the oath wearing a coat and a suit at the swearing-in ceremony. This is said to be the first time in Tamil Nadu’s political history that a Chief Minister has taken oath in a coat suit instead of the traditional white shirt and dhoti.
Vijay is rarely seen wearing a coat suit and has sported the look only on a few occasions. He has often mentioned actor Ajith while referring to his suit style in public appearances.
The ceremony began with the national anthem, followed by Tamil Thai Valthu. Vijay then introduced the nine ministers who took oath alongside him to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar. The TVK-led government has been formed with the support of Congress, Left parties, VVIP and IUML.
Actress Trisha Krishnan attended the event wearing a blue saree. She greeted Vijay’s mother, Shobha and waved to the crowd gathered at the venue. Film producer Venkat Narayana and actor Mansoor Ali Khan were also present at the ceremony.
Vijay’s close friend and television actor Sanjay, along with his wife Preethi Srinivasan, attended the event. Thoothukudi MLA Srinath, who is also Vijay’s friend, was also present at the swearing-in ceremony.
