Five people who were trapped inside a five-storey building that caught fire were rescued and sent to the hospital for treatment on Monday morning, May 5. The fire brigade is still struggling to control the blaze at the building in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Nearby buildings have been evacuated as a precaution.

Fire personnel are using ladders to enter the building located in the Gandhi Nagar area under the Chaman Ganj police station. Over a dozen fire engines are on site, and senior officials, including ADCP Rajesh Srivastava, are overseeing the rescue operations.

“Five people have been sent to the hospital; they will undergo medical examination. There is very little chance of their survival. The search operation is ongoing,” said ADCP Central Kanpur, Rajesh Srivastava. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is also present at the site.

Fire department officials stated that dousing operations are underway, and the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Further details are awaited.
