The lounge of the Karnataka Assembly is now full, with 15 recliners, including 2 massage chairs. The equipment is bought for all the MLAs and MLCs to take a quick nap and relax a little after lunch.

Karnataka assembly speaker UT Khader proposed renting 15 recliners to increase the participation of assembly members.

Khader said that many MLAs and MLCs leave vidhana soudha after lunch and do not come back to attend the session after the lunch break. This leads to poor attendance of MLAs and MLCs in post-lunch proceedings.

Khader said, "To prevent this, I have decided to hire at least 15 recliners and install them in the assembly lobby. This way, legislators can take a refreshing nap and attend House proceedings for the rest of the day."

He also noted that purchasing recliners would be a waste of resources as they will not be needed after the assembly session. Hence, he decided to rent 15 recliners and can remove them after the session ends.

Khader said that earlier such freebee initiatives have got good attendance of MLAs and MLCs at the session.  He said that in the past, providing free breakfast and lunch at vidhana soudha has successfully increased attendance.

Khader noted, "Legislators often arrive late if they wait for breakfast or struggle to return after leaving for lunch. With in-house meal services, participation has improved significantly."
