Panic broke out among passengers aboard the Kasganj Express in Uttar Pradesh after rumours of a fire spread inside the train near Shivrajpur in Kanpur district on Monday evening, May 12. According to reports, frightened passengers pulled the emergency chain, and several people jumped from the moving train as it began slowing down.
The incident took place within the jurisdiction of Shivrajpur police station when Train No. 15039 Kasganj Express, travelling from Anwarganj to Kasganj, was approaching Shivrajpur. A passenger allegedly spread rumours that a fire had broken out inside the train, triggering panic among passengers in multiple coaches.

After receiving information about the incident, teams from the Shivrajpur Police and the railway authorities rushed to the spot. However, during the investigation, officials found that no fire had occurred anywhere inside the train.

Preliminary findings suggested that dust from gravel thrown up near the railway tracks may have confused passengers, leading to the rumour. The station master confirmed that no fire incident had taken place and said the train was halted briefly as a precautionary measure for inspection.
Station in-charge Amit Singh said efforts were underway to identify the passenger who allegedly spread the rumour. Videos related to the incident have since gone viral on social media.
