Kerala Fireworks Factory Blast: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the explosion at a fireworks manufacturing unit in Thrissur, Kerala on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. In a post shared by the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the incident.

“Saddened to hear about the loss of lives due to the mishap at a cracker factory in Thrissur, Keralam. My deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest,” the prime minister said.

At least eight people were killed and several others injured after a powerful explosion ripped through a fireworks unit earlier in the day. The blast occurred at a shed where crackers were being prepared for the upcoming Thrissur Pooram festival.

According to the reports, the explosion took place around 3:30 pm, with intermittent blasts continuing afterward, making rescue operations difficult. Nearly 40 people were believed to be present at the site when the incident occurred, with several reported to be in critical condition.

Police, fire and rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched relief operations, while the cause of the explosion is under investigation.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has directed authorities to ensure all necessary medical assistance to the injured and is closely monitoring the situation.
