At least 8 people died and over 40 injured in an explosion at firework  manufacturing unit in Kerala’s Thrissur. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, April 21 afternoon at around 3.35 pm in  Mundathikode. Official from Wadakkanchery Fire Station told Onmanorama stated that The firecracker preparation unit was situated in a paddy field that had dried after the harvest, and the intense summer heat may have worsened the incident. Most of the injured are workers from the facility.

According to News18 report, following the tragedy officials and ambulances rushed to the spot immediately after the incident. The injured are being treated in several hospitals, including Thrissur Medical College Hospital. According to an official from the Wadakkanchery Fire Station, they received an alert around 3:35 pm regarding the blast.

The firecracker preparation unit was located in a dried paddy field, and the intense summer heat may have exacerbated the incident. Fire units from Wadakkanchery, Kunnamkulam, and Thrissur coordinated the response with local police.

 A fire station official stated that the rescue team has not reached the firecracker unit's location. The quantity of stored materials is unclear, and further explosions are possible.
