Bedi underlined the need for beat policing across the country. "Through beat policing, we can know about every resident in the area. There should be a beat box or booth in every locality where people can come with their problems and the concerned constable should solve them. When I was posted in Delhi, I had set up beat boxes and the Magsaysay award that I was given also mentions beat policing as an achievement," she said.

The All India Police Science Congress (AIPSC) is being held in Lucknow after a gap of almost 22 years. The last time the event was held here was in 1997.

UP DGP O.P. Singh said that the event was being organised by the home ministry and the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD).
