India is currently dealing with a devastating second Covid-19 wave that has swept through the nation, crushing the country's health infrastructure and overburdening frontline medical workers.

The number of coronavirus cases in the country is increasing day by day. India registered a slight dip in COVID-19 cases as it registered 3,68,147 new coronavirus infections and 3,417 related deaths in the last 24 hours, informed the union health ministry on Monday morning. With this, the cumulative count of the cases has gone up to 1,99,25,604.

Amid the increasing covid cases, a shocking news has come from city of Kota, known as the coaching city of the country. An elderly couple infected with covid jumped in front of a train and died. The couple is said to have taken the drastic step out of fear that their grandchildren would also be infected with the corona.

Heeralal Bairwa (75) and his wife Shantibai (70) were living with their 18-year-old grandson and daughter-in-law at Purohitji Ki Tapri area in the city in Rajasthan. The elderly couple''s son had died eight years ago, police said.

They had tested positive for the coronavirus on April 29 and had since then been in home quarantine, Sub-Inspector at Railway Colony police station Ramesh Chand Sharma said. The couple allegedly jumped before a train on the Delhi–Mumbai up line track near Chambal overbridge on Sunday morning.

Initial probe revealed that the couple feared that their only grandson and other family members may catch the coronavirus. The two left their home in the early hours of Sunday and took the extreme step, the SI said.
