An attempt to derail the Garib Rath Express was foiled on Wednesday night, April 19, after unidentified miscreants placed wooden logs and tree branches on the railway tracks in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow district. The obstruction was found between Dilawar Nagar and Rahimabad stations. A major tragedy was averted when the loco pilot of the Kashi Vishwanath Express spotted the obstruction in time and immediately alerted the railway authorities. As a precaution, the Garib Rath Express was halted at Malihabad station for several hours.
A towel inscribed with Ram Naam was also found near the tracks. Police raised an alert after discovering branches of a mango tree and a large wooden log at the site. A case has been registered against unknown individuals at Rahimabad Police Station. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Uttar Pradesh Police are currently conducting a joint investigation. The items recovered from the track will also be forensically examined.
As per the station master’s instructions, railway employee Rajesh Ranjan rushed to the site and discovered a 2.5-foot-long, 6-inch-thick dry wooden block and green tree branches placed on the up-line tracks near pole number 11099/11.
