Maha CM urges support for Sunetra to honour Ajit Pawar’s legacy
Baramati, April 21 Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday delivered a deeply emotional appeal to the voters of Baramati. Addressing a massive rally to conclude the campaign for the Baramati by-poll slated for April 23, CM Fadnavis framed the election as a "Sacrificial Fire (Yagya) of Remembrance" for the late Ajit Pawar, urging citizens to ensure a record-breaking victory for Sunetra Pawar.
The Chief Minister emphasised that failing to support the late leader’s wife in this hour of grief would be a failure of collective responsibility. CM Fadnavis remarked that if people do not offer their vote as an oblation in this Yagya of Dada's memories, they will be failing in their duty as a society.
In a significant revelation, CM Fadnavis acknowledged the political maturity shown by the opposition. He confirmed receiving a phone call from veteran leader Sharad Pawar, who pledged full support to Sunetra Pawar's candidacy.
CM Fadnavis said that Maharashtra has a tradition of holding unopposed elections after the demise of a great leader. He thanked Sharad Pawar for his call and his support. He added that he also reached out to the Congress State President, who has accepted the request.
He said that even if none had come to campaign, he was certain Baramati would have still chosen Sunetra Vahini to honour Dada’s legacy.
He emphasised that Maharashtra has a tradition of making by-elections unopposed in the event of a leader's death, subtly criticising the opposition for fielding a candidate against Sunetra Pawar.
Highlighting Sunetra Pawar's capability, CM Fadnavis noted that her experience as a Member of Parliament and her decades of work alongside Ajit Pawar in social, educational, and economic sectors make her the ideal successor.
The Chief Minister committed the state government to completing a slew of projects initiated by Ajit Pawar.
He said these projects include the Nira-Karha River Linking Project, a visionary irrigation project for the region; infrastructure; the four-laning of the Baramati-Nira road; and enhancements to the Baramati water supply system.
He said Ajit Dada was a leader who understood every corner of Maharashtra and presented 11 state budgets with impeccable financial discipline, adding that his loss is irreparable for the state.
He added that this is not just a vote for a candidate; it is a vote to ensure that Ajit Dada's vision for a modern Baramati does not falter. He said they stand to promise that the state government will be the backbone of every project he dreams of.
Addressing the lingering concerns regarding the tragic plane crash that claimed Ajit Pawar’s life, the Chief Minister sent a stern message.
He said there are doubts in many minds regarding the accident and assured that the government will not rest until the absolute truth behind the tragedy is revealed to the people of Baramati and Maharashtra.
Closing his speech, CM Fadnavis urged voters to support Sunetra Pawar to ensure a seamless connection between the local leadership and the Chief Minister’s Office, ensuring no "speed breakers" in the region's progress.
He reminded the electorate that April 23 is not just an election day but a day to offer a "tribute through the ballot". He challenged the voters of Baramati to not only break Ajit Pawar’s previous victory margins but to elect Sunetra Pawar with the highest number of votes in the entire country.
