NEET is the first step in the journey of an aspiring medical professional. Prime Minister's Office on Monday announced that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Postgraduate) will be postponed for at least four months. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi authorises keys decisions to boost availability of medical personnel to fight COVID-19. NEET-PG Exam to be postponed for at least 4 months," said Prime Minister's Office.

The decision to postpone the NEET 2021 exam has been taken due to an unexpected surge in Coronavirus cases. Covid-19 has also largely impacted the preparation of the students and has prevented them from going to the coaching centers.

"A decision was taken to postpone NEET-PG for at least 4 months and the exam will not be held before 31st August 2021. Students will also be given at least one month of time after the announcement of the exam before it is conducted. This will make a large number of qualified doctors available for Covid duties," the release said.

Prime Minister's Office further said that the medical personnel completing 100 days of Covid duties will be given priority in forthcoming regular Government recruitments. Medical Interns to be deployed in Covid Management duties under the supervision of their faculty, it said.

“Final Year MBBS students can be utilized for teleconsultation and monitoring of mild Covid cases under the supervision of Faculty. BSc/GNM Qualified Nurses to be utilized in full-time Covid nursing duties under the supervision of Senior Doctors and Nurses,” it added.

Medical personnel completing 100 days of Covid duties will be given Prime Minister’s Distinguished Covid National Service Samman, said the Prime Minister's Office.
