A young man and woman fell from the third floor of a building in the city's Raghunathpur area. The young man died in the incident, while the young woman sustained critical injuries. The case has now taken a new turn. Initially, the police suspected it might be a case of suicide or a burglary attempt; however, relatives have now alleged that the pair was held captive, subjected to "third-degree" torture, and pressured into jumping.
The father of a deceased young man alleges that the landlord, suspecting an affair, conspired to lure the young man and a female friend to the property and brutally assaulted them with a hockey stick throughout the night. The young woman remains in critical condition. The father has filed a police complaint, and authorities are investigating, pending the post-mortem report and the young woman's statement.
Reportedly, the landlord's wife was a college friend of the deceased. Upon learning this, the landlord allegedly summoned the victims and held them captive. The young man reportedly apologized and destroyed his SIM card, but the assault continued. The pair jumped from the third floor to escape, resulting in the young man's death. Initially, the landlord denied knowing the victims, but CDR analysis and the young woman's statement contradicted this. Police have examined the victims' CDRs and are reviewing CCTV footage. The young woman will be re-interviewed.
Several mobile numbers are under investigation, and some individuals have been detained for questioning. Suspicion has fallen on the landlord, Gajraj's, son and daughter-in-law, who are now in custody and being interrogated. ADCP Manisha Singh stated that investigators have examined the call details and CCTV footage from the area.
