PM Narendra Modi To Address Nation at 8.30 PM Today A Day After Women's Quota Bill Defeat in Lok Sabha
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 8.30 PM Today, April 18, a day after the women's reservation bill failed in Lok Sabha on Friday. This comes a day after the Prime Minister accused the Opposition of being "guilty" and acting against women by refusing to support the Women's Reservation Bill.
Earlier in the day, the prime minister also chaired a cabinet meeting. In the meeting, he termed the Opposition's vote a mistake and warned that it would have to pay a political price in the future. He said that the Opposition holds a negative mindset towards women. He also said Opposition parties are now scrambling to justify their position.

On Friday, the BJP-led government failed to secure the required two-thirds majority to pass the amendment bill. In the Lok Sabha voting, 298 members supported the bill while 230 opposed it.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla confirmed that the bill did not pass. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the Centre would not proceed with the remaining interlinked legislations.
