School Holiday in Uttarakhand On January 24, 2026: Schools, Anganwadi Centres Closed in Pithoragarh, Tehri Garhwal Due to Rain and Snowfall
Rain and snowfall lashed several parts of Uttarakhand on Friday, January 23, disrupting normal life across the hill state. Keeping student safety in mind, the district administrations of Pithoragarh and Tehri Garhwal have declared a holiday for all schools and Anganwadi centres on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
According to officials, all government, semi-government and private schools up to Class 12, along with Anganwadi centres, will remain closed in both districts. The decision was taken in view of continuous rainfall and snowfall, along with a weather department warning of heavy precipitation.

Uttarakhand Weather
The weather in Uttarakhand changed sharply on Friday, with rain and snowfall reported in several districts from the morning. By evening, many parts of the state experienced widespread showers and snowfall, bringing relief from dry conditions but also causing disruption.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rain and snowfall on January 23 and 24. A western disturbance has been active over Uttarakhand and large parts of north India since Thursday night, leading to the current weather conditions.
