Shah chairs high level meet on Delhi violence

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday chaired a high level meeting with Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and representatives of various political parties, Delhi Police Commissioner and officials of the ministry to review the situation in the aftermath of violence in northeast Delhi.

New Delhi, Feb 25 Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday chaired a high level meeting with Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and representatives of various political parties, Delhi Police Commissioner and officials of the ministry to review the situation in the aftermath of violence in northeast Delhi.

After the meeting, Kejriwal briefed the media about the steps taken by the government to stop the violence.

He said, meeting with Shah remained positive and all necessary measures to stop violence were discussed. Kejriwal said Delhi police have been asked to maintain peace and deploy adequate forces to maintain law and order.

Shah assured all steps from his ministry and asked the forces to deploy as much personnel as required to bring peace.

He also said that all parties have been asked to cooperate to ensure peace and tranquillity in Delhi.

Ongoing protests against the CAA turned violent on Monday as the two opposite groups clashed in the northeast Delhi in which seven people including a policeman have lost their lives and dozens of people are reportedly injured.

After reviewing the situation of the national capital, the home minister had called a high level meeting to discuss the steps to deal with situation and bring peace and harmony in the area and elsewhere in the city.

BJP state chief Manoj Tiwari also told the media that home minister has appealed to the political parties to cooperate in maintaining peace in Delhi.
