In tragic road accident, two men died and four other injured after their car rammed a roadside tree near Thanjavur in the early hours of Saturday, May 16. In this incident deceased were identified as R Thalapathy, 36, from Ammapettai, and M Tamilarasan, 27, from Ammanpettai.
Thalapathy, who had a prior criminal record at the Nadukaveri police station, celebrated his birthday with a group in Thiruvaiyaru, where they allegedly consumed alcohol. While returning to Ammanpettai from Thiruvaiyaru, the car, driven by Tamilarasan and carrying Thalapathy, Nitheesh, Sudharsan , Naren (18), and Abinesh (21), lost control near Kandiyur. The vehicle veered off the road at high speed and crashed into a palm tree.
A car accident resulted in severe injuries to the occupants. Local residents responded to cries for help, rescuing those trapped inside. Thalapathy and Tamilarasan died at the scene, while the four other injured individuals were taken to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital, where autopsies were performed. Thiruvaiyaru police have filed a case under sections 281, 125(a), and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash driving, endangering lives, and causing death by negligence.
