Srinagar, April 29 A terrorist hideout has been busted in J&K's Srinagar district and five overground workers (OGWs) of terrorist outfits, including a doctor, have been arrested, police said on Wednesday.

A police official said that in a major development, a joint team led by senior police officers from Zadibal, Soura, Lal Bazar, and Zakoora police stations busted a terrorist hideout at Chana Mohalla in Mulfaq area on Tuesday evening.

An AK-47 rifle, as well as 14 rounds of ammunition and a hand grenade, was recovered from the hideout.

In this significant crackdown on terror networks, police conducted multiple operations leading to the arrest of a doctor among five overground workers and recovery of arms, ammunition and other incriminating material, officials said.

During the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, a team from the police post Khanmoh apprehended five individuals during a check at Nard Sangri.

During the operation, police recovered two hand grenades, two magazines, live rounds, posters and six mobile phones from their possession. A case has been registered at Police Station Panthachowk, and an investigation has been initiated.

Police said further investigation is underway to unearth the broader terror network and identify other associates involved in the activities.

Operations, which led to the busting of these terror networks in Srinagar, were carried out under the supervision of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, G.V. Chakravarty, officials said.

J&K Police and the security forces are carrying out aggressive anti-terrorist operations in the hinterland to target terrorists, their OGWs and sympathisers.

The revised strategy has been devised to dismantle the entire support system of terror in the Union Territory instead of just focusing on the gun-wielding terrorists.

The duties to prevent infiltration, exfiltration, smuggling and drone activities initiated from the Pakistan side of the border are performed by the army on the Line of Control (LoC) and by the Border Security Force (BSF) on the International Border (IB) in J&K.
