Two-day job fair to augment employability of Meghalaya youth

The second edition of a two-day walk-in job fair kicked off at the Don Bosco hall here on Monday, just two months after a placement drive was held in the state by the Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya (SHCDM) which evoked an overwhelming response.

The job fair is being organised by Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) assisted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in support of the project NGO Aide-et Action jointly with IPE Global and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) aiming to increase the employability of Meghalaya's youth as well as providing an exposure and gainful employment to the best of corporates in India.

Roughly around 150 youth participated on the first day of the drive, who had registered themselves through a mobile application Meghalaya Youth Network (MYN). Around 80 got selected for jobs in various sectors which include the service industry, healthcare, hospitality, telecom, BPO & KPO, Business Solutions, E-Com and Retail. IGT Solutions Pvt. Ltd. Targetone Innovations Pvt. Ltd. (Go Mechanic), BankBazaar, Voylla Fashions Pvt. Ltd., OYO Rooms are few of the recruiters.

Sougata Roy Choudhury, Executive Director, Skills and Livelihood, CII, said, "The youth of Meghalaya, who have good education levels are being offered exclusive opportunity to get trained and successfully placed in corporates where they could make a mark and career for themselves."

He added, "They can be ambassadors of the quality of Meghalaya youth in Corporate India."

Shalender Sharma, Director, Education and Skills Development, IPE Global who was also present in the job fair told , "What differentiates it from other placement programmes is the fact that there are almost 5000 vacancies to be filled across the country, and all these are exclusively meant for the youth of Meghalaya."

With 4,500 registrations, most of the candidates who appeared for the interview were at the age between 18-25 years. Targeting over 2,600 footfall similar drives will be conducted again in various parts of the state.

The walk-in job fair runs from November 11 to 12.
