West Bengal Election 2021: Mamata Banerjee levels serious allegations against Election Commission

Bengal witnessed a fierce contest between the ruling TMC and BJP across eight phases. The Samyukta Morcha comprising the Congress, Left parties and ISF has also tried to put up a strong fight. The BJP has made a concerted attempt to dislodge the TMC.

In West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress won 213 seats."After this victory, Bengal saved India," West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee told the media. Mamata Banerjee has also made a serious allegation that the BJP could not have won more than 50 seats without the help of the Election Commission. In an interview to India Today, Mamata Banerjee said that the conduct of the Election Commission in West Bengal was "terrible".

Mamata Banerjee has made a serious allegation against the Election Commission that the panel was behaving as if they were the spokesperson of the BJP. Mamata Banerjee has claimed that if the Election Commission had not helped the BJP, it would not have got even 50 seats.

In the same way, I am a woman who fights on the streets. From the very beginning, I was saying that TMC will go beyond 200, the BJP will not go beyond 70, said Mamata Banerjee in an interview.

Mamata Banerjee has also reacted to the Nandigram match. Defeat in Nandigram is not our loss. This is because the counting of votes has been tampered with in this place.Therefore, we have asked the Election Commission to conduct a recount in Nandigram. "I was sitting outside the polling booth for three hours on polling day because no one was allowed to vote," Banerjee alleged.

Banerjee claimed that she has information that some manipulations were done after the declaration of results for the Nandigram seat. Briefing mediapersons, Mamata said, "Do not worry about Nandigram, I struggled for Nandigram because I fought a movement. It is ok. Let the Nandigram people give whatever verdict they want, I accept that. I do not mind. We won more than 221 seats and BJP has lost the election."

Though the Trinamool Congress has secured a majority in the West Bengal Assembly elections, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has lost in the Nandigram constituency. Mamata Banerjee was defeated in a close contest against BJP's Shubhendu Adhikari. As per the Election Commission of India (ECI), Adhikari won with a margin of 1,956 votes in Nandigram.

Nandigram witnessed a high voltage "Khela" (game of power) on April 1 in the second phase of West Bengal assembly polls. The constituency had seen a direct contest between Banerjee and her former ministerial colleague Suvendu Adhikari, who had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in December last year.
