New Delhi, Sep 2 Giving an exemplary display of humanity, jawans of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police carried the body of a local in a remote area of Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh District for a distance of 25 kilometres to hand it over to the family members of the deceased.

The 14th Battalion of ITBP was informed about a dead body of a local 30-year-old pony operator lying at village Syuni, located near Bugdayar. The personnel rushed to the spot and secured the dead body following which they took a stretcher to carry the dead body to village Bangapani, the native place of the deceased.

has learnt that they began at 11.30 in the morning and reached Munsyari at 7.30 in the evening, on the same day. For this, the jawans had to cross narrow stretches of the Syuni-Munsiyari road which is blocked because of heavy rainfall and landslides, with the dead body on the stretcher.

Eight hours of journey on foot by eight ITBP jawans just to ensure a dead body reaches Munsiyari and is handed over to the family in his native village so that it gets a dignified closure has definitely set an example of humanity.
