A shocking fraud case has emerged from Ujjain, where a woman was allegedly duped of ₹5 lakh by individuals who promised to sell her genuine gold at a low price. Police have arrested two accused in connection with the case and successfully recovered the entire defrauded amount.According to Deepika Shinde, the incident took place in the jurisdiction of Madhav Nagar Police Station. The accused approached the woman claiming they had genuine gold that they wanted to sell cheaply to help people in need.
Believing their claims and being in urgent need of money, the woman agreed to the deal and handed over ₹5 lakh in cash. In return, the accused gave her what they claimed was real gold. However, she later discovered that the gold was fake and approached the police for help. Following the complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested two suspects, who are husband and wife. Authorities also recovered 100 percent of the money that had been fraudulently taken from the victim. Police officials said further investigation into the case is ongoing to determine whether the accused were involved in similar frauds in the past.
In a similar incident reported from Udupi, the Padubidri Police Station arrested a woman accused of cheating a local resident using fake gold jewellery. The victim, identified as Bassamma, was walking in the area when she was approached by an unidentified man and woman. The duo showed her a chain resembling gold, claiming it had a Lakshmi pendant and weighed around six pawan. They told her they urgently needed money and convinced her that the chain was genuine. Trusting their claims, Bassamma handed over her own gold ornaments weighing about two sovereigns, valued at around ₹1.5 lakh, along with ₹6,000 in cash. The suspects fled immediately after the exchange. Later, when Bassamma visited a jewellery shop to verify the chain, she discovered that it was fake. She rushed back to the spot, but the suspects had already disappeared. Following her complaint, police launched an investigation and managed to arrest one of the accused, while efforts are ongoing to trace the other suspect.
