Murbi Pada Replaces Central Park: Metro Station Name Change Settles Dispute

Navi Mumbai: A dispute over the name of the Central Park station on the Navi Mumbai Metro's Belapur-Pendhar line has finally been resolved.

Following protests from residents of Murbi village, who argued for cultural recognition, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has directed the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) to rename the station Murbi Pada.

The controversy arose two months ago when the Metro service launched between Belapur and Pendhar.
While all eleven stations were named after surrounding villages, the seventh station, located in Murbi's vicinity, was christened "Central Park." This discrepancy sparked protests led by social activist Jagdish Thakur, who highlighted the historical and cultural significance of Murbi. Notably, the movement received support from various political parties.

Acknowledging the intensity of the protests, CIDCO issued an official letter directing MahaMetro to rename the station. MahaMetro has reportedly begun the process, and Thakur expressed confidence that the station will soon bear the new name "Murbi Pada."
