As the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NIMA) has begun its commercial flight operations from today (December 25) with the first IndiGo flight from Bengaluru landed at the airport, which was welcomed with a water cannon salute at the runway. The first flight at NMIA is IndiGo's 6E460 was scheduled to arrive at 8 am on Thursday, followed by its departure to Hyderabad (6E882) at 08:40 am.
The day's last arrival will be the IndiGo flight from Goa (MOPA) at 6.50 pm, while the last departure is the IndiGo 6E461 to Bengaluru at 7.45 pm today. The Maharashtra Municipal and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) first envisioned this airport in 1997, in addition to the city's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Santacruz.
A video shared on X (formerly Twitter) where a flight hovering over the airport to land, which is also the first commercial flight to land at the newly inaugurated airport. The airport was inaugurated by the Prime Minister on October 8 this year. Gautam Adani, Chairman of Adani Group, also arrived to witness the water cannon salute to the first flight at NMIA on the first day of its commercial flight operations.

Akasa Air will depart on its first flight to Delhi and later to Goa, Kochi and Ahmedabad. Domestic airlines, such as Air India Express, Akasa Air and Star Air will begin their services with nine domestic routes. The NMIA will divide the load of CSMIA, making dual air connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
NMIA will operate with Terminal 1 and one runway. The terminal has annual capacity of 20 million passengers with 66 check-in counters and self-bag drop facilities available.
