Karachi, March 24 Former Australia opener David Warner has been appointed as Karachi Kings captain for the 2025 season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), commencing on April 11.

This will be Warner's maiden appearance in the PSL after becoming the first pick of Karachi Kings in the Players Draft 2025 held at the iconic Hazuri Bagh in Lahore on January 13, underscoring the franchise’s confidence in his abilities.

Warner was acquired by Karachi Kings for a record-breaking USD 3,00,000, making him the most expensive signing in PSL history.

"The dynamic left-handed batsman, renowned for his aggressive leadership and match-winning prowess, will spearhead the franchise’s campaign in the highly anticipated season," the franchise said in a release on Monday.

"Warner, a World Cup-winning veteran and one of the most explosive openers in T20 cricket brings a wealth of experience to the role. With over a decade of leadership in global leagues, including the Big Bash League (BBL) and Indian Premier League (IPL), Warner is poised to inspire a fresh chapter for the Kings," it added.

Warner will replace Shan Masood in the leadership role. Karachi Kings finished fifth in the six-team competition last year with only four wins in 10 matches. They have won the PSL title once in the 2020 season.

“We are thrilled to welcome David Warner to the Karachi Kings family as our new captain. His track record as a leader and match-winner aligns perfectly with our vision for HBL PSL 10. At the same time, we extend our deepest appreciation to Shan Masood for his exceptional contributions last season. His efforts were pivotal in building a strong foundation, and we look forward to his continued role as a key player in the squad," said Karachi Kings owner Salman Iqbal.

Karachi Kings will begin their campaign on April 12 at National Stadium in Karachi where they will face off against Multan Sultans.
